ABOUT US
OUR STORY
Roots in Resistance
Marroon Brothers was born from a deep love for reggae and seggae music, and an even deeper commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of Mauritius.
Named after the historic Marroons — escaped slaves who formed free communities and resisted oppression — we carry forward the spirit of freedom, resistance, and unity through our music.
Our journey began in the hills of Chamarel, where the echoes of Kaya and the pioneers of Mauritian seggae still resonate. We picked up their instruments, learned their songs, and made a promise: to never let this music die.
— Kaya, Father of Seggae
More Than Music
For us, reggae and seggae are not just genres — they are tools for education, liberation, and community building. Every performance is an opportunity to share stories, honor our ancestors, and inspire the next generation.
Through events like Chamarel Roots Live Session, we create spaces where culture thrives, where young people can learn about their heritage, and where the community comes together in celebration and solidarity.
We believe in the power of music to heal, to unite, and to transform. And we’re committed to using our platform to build something lasting.
Our Mission
To preserve and celebrate the reggae and seggae heritage of Mauritius, to empower youth through music and culture, and to build the Chamarel School of Music — a place where the next generation can learn, create, and carry the torch forward.
“Si ou pa kone kot ou sorti, ou pa pou kone kot ou pe alé.”
OUR VALUES

We play real reggae and seggae — no compromises, no shortcuts. Our music comes from the roots.
Resistance
Like the Maroons before us, we resist cultural erasure and fight to keep our heritage alive.
Unity
Music is the bridge that connects us all. We create spaces where everyone is welcome.
Transmission
We don’t just perform — we teach, mentor, and pass the knowledge to the next generation.
Community
Everything we do is for and with our community. We rise together.
Freedom
Our music celebrates freedom in all its forms — personal, cultural, and spiritual.
